For all those who think of Bassets as couch potatoes this is Fred to change your perception.
He was 2½ years old when he came into Welfare as his owner was emigrating. He was a lively hound who would spin round when being walked although this would improve as the walk continued. He had a slight skin infection which might explain this. He had one or two other quirks but nothing aggressive as he had lived with small children with no problems. According to his owner he would chew if left for long periods and he would only eat one food; others made him sick. A lovely little character but not straightforward.
We were approached by someone who had young twins which would usually deter us but they were in fact older than one of the children Fred had previously lived with. A home visit was essential and when we met them we were confident that it would work They also had a four year old Basset who was very active and ate stones among other things so Fred’s idiosyncrasies wouldn’t present problems and he has settled in.
